Policy Statement

Macomb Township offers free Internet access to residents and other authorized users (“Users”) wishing to use their own equipment to pursue their informational and recreational needs using the Internet and Macomb Township’s Wi-Fi service (“Wi-Fi Service”).


Users are welcome to use their own personal computing equipment (computers, laptops, tablets, smart-phones and other mobile Internet devices) and the Wi-Fi Service to access the Internet in the Macomb Township Recreation Center and other locations in Township buildings designated by the Township Board (collectively referred to as “Hot Spots”) in accordance with this Policy. The Wi-Fi Service is a free service provided by the Township offered at the sole discretion of the Township which may be blocked, suspended or terminated at any time at the sole discretion of the Township without cause or for any reason, including, but not limited to, violation of this Policy or the Agreement, actions that could lead to liability for the Township, disruption of access to other Users or networks, or violation of any applicable laws or regulations.

The Wi-Fi Service is available for the User’s personal, non-commercial use. The User understands and agrees that the Wi-Fi Service and network are used by many Users to access a variety of services, and that the Township nor the Internet provides security against unauthorized access.

Others may access or monitor a User’s activity or conduct while the User is using the Wi-Fi Service, and the Township is not responsible for unauthorized accessed to the data, files, transmissions, communications sent to or from the User or for any unauthorized access to your computing equipment.

Availability of the Wi-Fi Service to Users is on a non-exclusive, first-come, first served basis. The Township reserves the right to limit Wi-Fi Internet access to a certain amount of time per day foreach User. The Township cannot guarantee uninterrupted access, a particular amount of bandwidth on the Wi-Fi Service network, or any speed or throughput of the Wi-Fi Service connection, as such service is affected by many factors including the User’s device and associated equipment, Internet traffic and associated equipment, and other factors.

By utilizing the Wi-Fi Service, the User acknowledges that he or she has read and understands the Agreement and accepts it (together with all attached policies) and agrees to abide by its terms and conditions as it may be amended from time to time. If the User does not accept the Agreement, he or she may not and is not authorized to use the Wi Fi Service.

Users are advised that material available on the Internet may be inappropriate for viewing or use by minors. Parents or legal guardians are responsible for monitoring use of the Wi-Fi Service at Township Hotspots by their children under age 18 or minors under their care or supervision. The Township is not responsible for monitoring use of the Wi-Fi Service by minors or by others.

The Users understand that while the Township provides access to the Internet, the Township is not responsible for services or products offered by others on the Internet. The Township is not the publisher of any information on the Internet that is provided by others, including other Users, on bulletin boards, in chat rooms, or other venues. The Township is not responsible for any content furnished by others, including any profane, obscene, indecent, disturbing, illegal, abusive, infringing, hateful, offensive or other material the User may find objectionable.

The Township reserves the right to monitor Users’ use of the Wi-Fi Service, but makes no commitment to review, monitor, or filter such services, products, information, data or content sent, accessed, offered or advertised over the Internet via the Wi-Fi Service. While it is the policy of the Township not to share personal information about any User, the Township may disclose personal information as required by law (i.e. subpoena, search warrant, etc.) or where allowed by law (i.e. Patriot Act, Digital Millennium Copyright Act or other laws, to enforce this Policy, protect the Wi-Fi Service network, or protect Users).

Users may not use the Service in any manner that could damage the Township’s property or any other operator’s property, or interfere with, harm or disrupt the Township’s system or any other operator’s systems. Users may not use the Wi-Fi Service for any fraudulent, unlawful, harassing, or abusive purpose, or so as to damage or cause risk to the Township’s business, reputation, employees, facilities, or any other person. Such improper or prohibited use of the Wi-Fi Service activities include, but are not limited to those which:

Violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation directly or indirectly related to activities which maybe conducted over the Internet (such as child pornography, obscenity, human trafficking, firearms sales or trading, security issuance, sales and trading, unfair competition, false advertising, fraudulent consumer activities, spamming, privacy violations, unauthorized data transfer); Presenta material security risk or materially interfering with the continued operation of the Wi-Fi Service;

Infringe upon another's copyrights, patents, trademarks, service marks, trade names, trade secrets or other intellectual property rights or rights of publicity;

Involve libelous, defamatory, or harassing behavior, misappropriation of trade secrets, intentional misrepresentation, fraudulent behavior, or publishing private information without the permission of the person(s) involved;

Introduce viruses, trojan horses, trap doors, back doors, easter eggs, worms, time bombs, packet bombs, cancelbots or any other computer programming routines which are intended to damage, detrimentally interfere with, surreptitiously intercept or expropriate any system, data or personal information;

Gain or attempt to gain illegal or unauthorized access to other computers, devices, or networks with any engine, software, tool, agent, device or mechanism other than the software and/or search agents provided by the Township or other generally available third-party web browser;

Attempt to intercept, collect or store data about third parties without their knowledge or consent;

Send unsolicited messages, including without limitation, promotions or advertisements for products or services, "pyramid schemes", "spam", "chain mail" or "junk mail"; or interfere or attempt to interfere with the access of any User, host, or network.

This Policy and the Agreement may be changed by the Township from time to time. Such changes will be binding upon Users. Such changes will be posted on the Township’s Website. The User agrees that each time the User connects to the Wi-Fi Service that he or she agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions of the then current Policy and Agreement.
