Planning & Zoning

The Macomb Township Planning Department serves the community by performing a number of functions. Those functions include site development reviews, long-range planning for the future of Macomb Township, administration of the zoning ordinance, serving as professional and administrative staff for both the Macomb Township Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals. Additionally, the Planning Department provides administrative support to the Engineering Department and assists with updates to many items within the Code of Ordinances, as well as administration of the Community Development Block Grant program.

Site Development reviews typically consist of confirmation that the proposed developments meet the zoning ordinance in terms of building setbacks, height limitations, parking accommodations, lighting, and site density. Additionally, the Planning Department will confirm that any such development is located in the appropriate zoning category.

Support for both the Macomb Township Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals includes the preparation of agendas, coordination of reviews with other departments and public notification requirements. The department also provides a variety of township maps and other development related information to these appointed groups. Additionally, the Planning Department develops the Township Master Plan in coordination with the Planning Commission.
