The mission of the Human Resources Department is to promote an open-door atmosphere that helps employees feel empowered and respected.

Human Resources is responsible for overseeing the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; dispute and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and wellness; safety and training and development.

Negotiations with four bargaining units are handled by Human Resources. These unions include: The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Michigan Association of Public Employees (MAPE), International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and Michigan Association of Fire Fighters (MAFF). 

Additional resources provided by Human Resources include: maintenance of position descriptions, compensation schedules, workers compensation, disability program, employment files, medical files, benefit files, monitoring employee evaluation program and maintenance of all policies and procedures.
